Center For Friction Stir Processing

The Mission of the Center for Friction Stir Processing is to advance the state-of-the-art of friction stir processing (FSP) and facilitate accelerated industrial application of this technology.

The Center will accomplish this mission by:

  • Developing and performing research into the principles and technology of Friction Stir Processing.
  • Increasing the quantity and quality of the professionals prepared to work in the area.
  • Promoting Exchange of people, knowledge and technology among academic, industry and government entities.
  • Performing research that will allow Friction Stir Processing facilities to be competitive in the world economy.
  • Synthesizing and disseminating knowledge about process fundamentals.

Supernal Visits

The Supernal team came to visit. We are investigating how to use refill friction stir spot welding together with adhesives in the manufacturing of air taxis. Thank you for making the trip to BYU! We enjoyed spending the day with you.

Fall CFSP Conference

CFSP headed to Nasa in Huntsville AL for our Fall conference. We had a wonderful time touring, collaborating and brainstorming while working towards the common goal of advancing technologies and transitioning them into industry.

Mazak MegaStir came to film the MegaStir liquid cooled tool holder on the Meld L 3 machine as well as interview faculty and staff about its capabilities and advancing technology.
